Yüzyıl) İslam felsefesinin geleneksel yapısından ayrılarak toplumsal ve politik sorunlara özgün bir bakış açısıyla ortaya koyduğu görüşleri geç de olsa özellikle Batı’da yankısını bulmuştur. Bu açıdan İbn Haldun’un, düşünce tarihinde, kökenini Eski Yunan’da Platon ve Aristoteles’ten alan ve İslam Dünyasında Farabi ve İbn Sina tarafından temsil edilen Aristotelesçi felsefe geleneğinden kopuşu ve Batı’da Rönesans ile başlayan yeni düşünme biçiminin öncülüğünü temsil ettiği söylenebilir. Onun sosyal bilimler alanındaki bu öncülüğünün Batı’da Rousseau’dan Locke’a uzanan doğal hukuk okuluna, Herder ’den Dilthey’a uzanan Alman tarih okuluna, Comte pozitivizmi ve Marksizm e değin pek çok akıma etkisi olmuş ve bu durum birçok araştırmada vurgulanmıştır’.
