- Honoré de Balzac (1799-1850): Elli bir yıllık bir ömre inanılması güç bir hızda, 100'ü aşkın kitap içeren İnsanlık Komedyası'nı sığdıran 19. yüzyılın anıtsal romancısıdır. Balzac'ın yirmi günde yazdığı ve bir mirasın etrafında dönen entrikaları ele aldığı Ursule Mirouët'yse, (1841) yazarın anıtsal yapıtının Taşra Yaşamından Sahneler bölümünde yer almaktadır. Sabiha Rifat (1915- 2006); Üniversite yıllarında Erich Auerbach'ın öğrencisi olan Rifat, Fransızca öğretmeni ve Tercüme Bürosu'na katkı veren önemli Fransızca çevirmenlerindendi. Balzac'tan ikisi eşi Oktay Rifat'la birlikte dilimize kazandırdığı dört romanın yanı sıra, A.Maurois ve Julien Green de çevirdiği yazarlar arasındadır. Samih Rifat (1945); Çeviriden yazı ve çiziye, fotoğraftan belgesel yönetmenliğine, kültür hayatımızın çok yönlü sıfatını en hak eden kişilerinden biridir. Son 25 yılda Platon'dan Claude Simon'a, Kavafis'ten Le Courbusier'ye pek çok ozan ve yazarı dilimize kazandırmıştır.
